Open Enrollment begins on February 1, 2021 and will close on February 12, 2021. Enrollment documents must be brought to the Freedom Academy office to finalize student enrollment. There will be a Lottery if needed on February 26, 2021.  The week of February 22th, 2021 families will be contacted to advise of enrollment status via email.

Freedom Academy is an open enrollment school of choice. Any student eligible to attend an Arizona public school may enroll. Students will be enrolled during our open enrollment period, culminating with a lottery for grades in which not all enrolled students can be accommodated. After the open enrollment lottery, students will be enrolled on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Every attempt will be made to accommodate students seeking admission. However, due to the capacity of the schools physical plant, the school is limited in its student enrollment. When that limit is reached, a waiting list is established based on the students’ enrollment date and time.

So, what is a charter school lottery?

"Typically, a charter school will hold an enrollment period when parents can register their children. If there is enough room for every interested student, the school does not need to hold a lottery. Unlike district magnet schools, charter schools do not have any kind of admissions process, which means students do not need to worry about essays, interviews, or auditions.

If a lottery is necessary, the charter school will begin its random drawing process, either handling the applications manually, or using a computer program."

Enrollment Policy

Freedom Academy’s Board adopted policy is in alignment with the state recommendation that a child must reach the age of five (5) prior to September 1st to be eligible for kindergarten and must be age six (6) by September 1st to be eligible for the first grade. We make no exceptions to this policy.

Early advancement of high achieving students is not advised in most cases. Instead, the goal of Freedom Academy will be to individually enrich the program of a high functioning student instead of advancing them to a higher grade.

COVID Update for Freedom Academy Updated

Hello Freedom Families,

First off, I would like to thank everyone for keeping up with safety precautions for our on campus students. So far, you all have been doing great with keeping your sick kiddos at home and monitoring their health daily. This has proven to be the best way to keep ahead of this curve, and your diligence in this has really made a difference.

Thank you for remembering to send your student(s) to school with a mask, as our office was getting bombarded with kids not bringing them and it was becoming a concern. This precaution helps keep kids and teachers as safe as possible so we can continue on campus learning support. So far we have had no positive COVID cases on campus which is encouraging to see.

Our policy on families who indicate that they have been exposed to someone with COVID is to keep your student home for 14 calendar days from time of exposure per CDC guidelines. The school will be in contact with the family to advise on any further actions regarding school work and when your student is okay to return. Every scenario we encounter is different, so we will consult the health professionals on the best course of action to take.

To update you on our procedures, every week we have a service provider come and check all sanitizing machines and refill as necessary. We recently switched our janitorial service company to ensure that we are keeping our campus clean and sanitized. This company uses an electrostatic fogger to sanitize all high touch areas once a week in addition to the nightly cleaning and sanitizing they provide. Teachers have been diligent with wiping and sanitizing surfaces throughout the day, so much so, that we have had to purchase more wipes as our stockpile from school years past has almost been used up! If you would like to donate any more to the school, please feel free to drop them by the front office.

We were hoping to begin allowing visitors on campus as we saw low numbers continue to hold during the first quarter, but as the recent weeks' case numbers increase, we feel it is best to continue to keep visitors off campus to eliminate any possibility of unnecessary contact. We miss having parent visitors on campus to participate in what we do here at Freedom, but we are hopeful that we can return to some sense of normalcy at some point during this school year.

As far as pickup goes in the afternoon, we thank everyone for using the pickup line and being patient with us as we load your kids. We will be trialing a few changes to help aid in both efficiency and safety. For those that choose to walk up, we ask that you please wear a mask and distance yourself from the kids coming out of the gates. For the first pickup, if parents could please remember to stand by the Front Office "Freedom Academy" sign, that would help us greatly with organization. For the second pickup, if parents could either wait closer to the street before the crosswalk or on the pad under the awning away from the exit gate, that would help us decrease any prolonged contact. The other option for second pickup is to come into the office and sign a walking waiver for your student so they can walk out and meet you off campus.

We are keeping up with school trends and monitoring what is best for our students, teachers, and families. The positive outcomes that have come from having students on campus has been reassuring to see. We have been able to identify different social/emotional concerns and address them to ensure that we are teaching and caring for the whole child. To see their smiling faces at recess and the relationships that they are building with peers and teachers has been a ray of sunshine in these uncertain times.

We will keep you updated on any further decisions that we need to make regarding policies or procedures.

Again, we thank you for being a part of the Freedom Family and for continuing to support your students, teachers, and staff. This has been a trying year so far with many bumps in the road, but if we continue to work together I am confident that Freedom will come out of this better equipped as a school to serve our community. Have a wonderful day!

Jen Cavalcant

Mitigation Plan 2020-2021

Distance Learning Plan

School Masks Mandate Still In Effect

Update from ASBCS

Earlier today, Governor Ducey issued Executive Order 2021-06, rescinding county and municipal mask mandates and business restrictions established in prior Executive Orders.

However, per the Arizona Department of Health Services, the AZDHS Emergency Measure requiring mask use in K-12 schools remains in effect.

Please continue to enforce the mask mandate in your charter school, as required by the Emergency Measure. Masks must be worn on school campuses, on school buses and during school-associated activities by all students, faculty, staff, contractors, and visitors.

Reminder: Charters Planning to Offer Online Instruction Next Year

If you are an existing charter operator intending to offer distance learning or online instruction in FY 2022 (School Year 2021-2022) and are not already approved for Arizona Online Instruction (AOI), please contact your ASBCS Education Program Manager at your earliest convenience.
